Exploring the Heart, Soul and Flavours of Vietnam & Hong Kong

There is a distinct magic to exploring a new corner of the world when every logistical detail is completely taken care of. Our recent Vietnam & Hong Kong Guided Small Group Tour was designed to offer exactly that peace of mind. Spanning 11 deeply immersive days in Vietnam followed by a vibrant 3-night stopover in the glittering metropolis of Hong Kong, this journey captured everything from ancient charm to modern energy.

While the itinerary promised a perfect mix of culture, cuisine, and world-renowned highlights like an overnight cruise on Halong Bay, it was the raw, daily experiences on the ground that truly stole our hearts. Looking back, five distinct themes defined the beautiful rhythm of this trip.

1. A journey of "glorious food"

While this was officially a guided cultural tour, it quickly and beautifully transformed into an absolute culinary expedition. To put it simply: we ate absolutely everywhere we went!

From the aromatic steam rising off fresh street-side phở to the intricate balance of flavours in local regional specialties, the trip became a continuous celebration of glorious food. Vietnamese cuisine is famous for its vibrant freshness, and having local guides to navigate the best hidden gems meant we got to eat like locals every single day. Whether it was a quick bite between historic sights or a beautifully prepared sit-down meal, the rich food culture kept us energised and constantly eager for the next stop.

2. Radical hospitality and generous smiles

You can visit the most beautiful landscapes in the world, but it is always the local people who leave the most permanent mark on your memory. Across every province, town, and bustling city street we visited, the local people were remarkably nice and incredibly generous with their smiles.

Even when language barriers meant we couldn't always communicate smoothly through spoken words, no translation was ever needed to understand their warmth. A genuine sense of hospitality followed our small group everywhere we went, making us feel genuinely welcome and looked after at every turn of the road.

3. A culture of deep resilience

Vietnam’s history is profound, and standing amidst its historic landscapes offers a powerful lesson in human strength. Witnessing how the country has evolved reveals a deep-rooted cultural resilience.

The painful history of past conflict has brought out a remarkable grace, resilience, and profound gratefulness among the people. There is a palpable, shared commitment to living peacefully, moving forward, and embracing the future with open arms. It gives the historical sites and ancient towns an emotional depth that goes far beyond standard sightseeing.

4. A true massage and pampering haven

Travelling is highly exhilarating, but it can also tire out your feet—especially when you are making the most of every single day. Fortunately, Vietnam is an absolute haven for massages and relaxation!

The local wellness culture makes high-quality pampering incredibly accessible. With world-class spas readily available, it is the kind of destination where you can easily treat yourself to a rejuvenating massage twice a day if you want to. It was the perfect way to unwind after a rewarding day of exploring ancient streets or cruising majestic bays.

5. An unbeatable budget-friendly paradise

One of the most practical joys of travelling through Vietnam is how exceptionally budget-friendly it is. Your money goes incredibly far here, allowing you to enjoy premium experiences, endless food tours, and daily pampering sessions without ever stressing about the cost. It provides a rare kind of travel freedom where you can fully immerse yourself in the best the country has to offer, knowing you are getting incredible value every single step of the way.

From the serenity of Halong Bay to the neon of Hong Kong

Of course, these beautiful cultural nuances were perfectly balanced by the grand highlights built into our package. We rested easy in hand-selected 4-star accommodation, watched the sun set over the emerald waters of Halong Bay from the deck of our overnight cruise boat, and seamlessly transitioned into the fast-paced luxury of Hong Kong for a dazzling 3-night finale.

Travelling as a tight-knit, small group allowed us to share these daily culinary discoveries and moments of wonder together, forming friendships that made the journey even more special.
